I wonder if the toons have to have the same name to transfer titles in the HoM, if your GW 1 guy is named XYZ, and your GW 2 guy is named YHD.....could they still share titles?

I'm all for it and transferring my characters...I don't care. I love the idea, BUT, I better be able to play it on my 256mb RAM computer.

Default Gw2??

Here is what I see from my perspective, one a sucessful Anet Buisness plan relys on the release of salable content every 6-8months. Well they have announced eye of the north for sometime around the holidays of this year and then it is GW2 two years from now. Well number one speaking for myself, I'm hesitant to spend money on another expansion in a game with a relatively short life span. I cannot speak for others but I would think I'm not alone in that feeling. My question is without that planned income what will they do to keep the lights on. I know Auto assult won't be paying for it . How much are you willing to continue to spend Time and money on a title the maker has told you is supported but dieing?

Second one of the reasons I like Gw is that I can develop multiple characters and play through the game and PVP from multiple perspectives to keep things fresh and have new goals to reach for. A level cap of 100+ or unlimited your almost going to have to select one character and stick with that to have a strong elite able character.

Third One of the things that drew me to this game was a consistant game that will release new content every 6-8months. Do I mind loosing all my charcters and stuff? YES I DO. But for all the hours I've lost I will now be able to JUMP and SWIM OMG ... yeah and there are 20+ FPS titles that will let me do that .... and some of them still suck.

Fourth In the face of new titles comming from Dev teams with very proven track records of creating legendary game world changing releases, Yes I mean HellGate London, will GW2 when done (in two years) have anything to really offer comparatively? What they are saying now looks great but by the time release comes will it be? With that why kill the future of what has made you what you are? Like the old saying A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Either way I have been on the fence and torn about continuing to play GW or moving to something Like NWN2 (with the constantly being release community based modules or maybe HellGate ... well this has kinda made my mind up for me.

I'm just not comfortable with the future of the game considering all I've said.. How "successful" will Anet stay ??

If you link a Guild Wars 2 character to a Guild Wars character, the GW2 character will inherit the GW character’s accomplishments, as recorded in your Hall of Monuments. The Hall of Monuments, available through Guild Wars: Eye of the North, will provide access to unique companions, equipment, miniatures, titles, etc. that can’t be obtained any other way in GW2.

I like the whole idea of building a "family history" for my characters in The Hall of Monuments. With the timespan between Guild Wars: Eye of the North and Guild Wars 2, the whole idea that other players have suggested--passing things (even names) down "through the family" and so forth--is cool!
I, aswell as others it seems, seem to have questions about this. Does this mean that our GW1 and GW2 accounts are to be linked, or that you do a login sort of thing at the Hall of Monuments in GW2 providing the username and password for your GW1 account to get the bonuses. And if we pass them to GW2, will they still be accessible in GW1? (Mostly talking about minipets, because I love collecting them ) Just after any ideas if they will be linked, or if they'll be seperate accounts which you link in another way in game..

Default Regarding Character transferability into Guild Wars 2

Arena Net has said, "Characters from the original Guild Wars campaign will not be migrated to play in Guild Wars 2."
found at http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Guild_Wars_2

I as with a few other people at the wiki think that there should be more insentive for those who have played GW1 for so long. We realise that it is an entire new game, but beleive that the aditions proposed will not create an unbalence in the game.
There is little information at this point, but under current curcumstances, we would like to speak out now in an atempt to persuade Arena Net to listen to the sugestions. They arent final, and as new information arises, they may change.

The petition/poll can be found here:
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/User:Hy...me/PetitionGW2

You may discuss anything you want here, but if you want the wiki community to also see, please post there on the talk page. I wont go on because my opinion is on the site.

Do you guys agree with arena net's current desicion?
Edit: This post and the last 7-8 posts were on another thread which was merged here, so some of the responses may not connect.

In a word. Yes.

I don't know why so many people feel like they need to carry their baggage from one game to another.

I have to say that I felt as you did at first. I've played for some 2500 hours or so. I like character development so I always try to finish each campaign with all my ten characters. So my first reaction when I hear that it was non-transferable was of 'what a loss'. But thinking it over, it doesn't seem that different to me anymore. I'll probably still play GW1 until/if they shut down the servers, and get GW2. I'm with a well established guild as well, so I see no reason why, two years from now, we won't have a group migration into GW2, while still helping out our guildies at GW1.

I cannot say i agree or disagree with Anet on anything. As nothing is set in stone yet with the game so far away. I'll wait till GW2 is officially announced to hold final judgements! heh.

It was time invested. Simply put, time is precious.

I personally would MUCH rather be able to bring over my characters from GW1 since i have spent nearly 2 years, soon to be over 2 on this account. I really don't care if others have the smug outlook of "its just a game", or "why take ur baggage"...etc. My attachement is not simply because its a game. It is because like ANYTHING in real life that you invest time of your life in from work, to relationships, to investments, and even entertainment... you will ultimatly feel attachment to it. I am not bitter or angry, just kind of sad. I personally do not have the time to invest in two seperate GW games, accounts and different character sets. And if i want to keep up with my guild and friends, it will pretty much be a must to migrate to GW2, losing much if not all of our GW1 account usage. My attachment is because it was time involved, not cause i like my chars, or i got my uber armor or uber weapons, but because a large portion of time had been invested in the account out of enjoyment.

Maybe they could have allowed our GW1 account to be usable in GW2, only after beating GW2, and maybe getting through an elite area or what-not. I know that i personally would be very excited to get my hands on GW2 if that were the case...

Now despite all that, i will not belittle Anet's decision. In fact, i completely understand why the decision was made. (1) It's a whole new and seperate game, (2) It takes place much later in time then the GW1 history took place, (3) It would involve a TON of work to recode ALL characters, items armors, and any graphics attached to EVERY account in order to transfer them to GW2 ... The amount of man-hours needed to invest in that task would be immense, and in the end would most likely cause Anet's profit margin to greatly decrease, and take away time from the main game focus in terms of establishing, updates, balances, etc...

Anet has tried to at least make GW2 more inviting to GW1 long time players through their Hall of Monuments talk about transfers of character things such as titles and equipment (still not clear what this will encompass). So all is not lost... your GW1 history can live on!

All in all, I will prolly stop playing the GW games all together once i have played GW:EN. Once GW2 is release i am convinced i will just give up playing since i am way too sad to not be able to bring along my GW1 peoples. Since most will be migrating to GW2 permanently anyway, i am sure not only will the GW population fade to near nothing, but my own guild will become a ghost town... Again, i did say i understand some reasons why Anet has not offered a fully transferrable experience from GW1 to GW2, but having to leave 2 years of invested time and fun behind me is just too sad.

Ya i have had my share of losing invested time (i.e. Diablo, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, Starcraft, Dungeon Siege (yuck), etc). So i am not talking outta my @$$. All in all, i guess i will just wait for the final and official announcement of GW2 to hold my final decision, but so far, a bit dissappointing...

cheers!

Here's another 'smug' comment for you - as long as you consider your game time 'an investment' then you will be setting yourself up for heartbreak. There's no way to come out ahead in that situation. Everything has an end and it's time to find something else to enjoy. This is no different.

I played GW since WPE, and I don't feel cheated or betrayed for not being able to port my characters to GW2.

I don't know what the big deal is, you all knew it was going to end one day right ?

While I'm not opposed to character transfer, I don't think it's such a big deal as a lot of people have made it out to be. If it doesnt happen it's hardly the end of the world.

I'd rather that they still have the same professions so I can remake my Ranger and my Paragon. That way, you can still play your favourite profession but start fresh.

Nothing should be transfered from one game to another.

Nothing.

I did not mean to single your comments out.

Me saying that time as an "investment" is not out of place. Time should be precious to ANYONE. Time spent doing any task was out of the direct decision to spend that time or "invest" that time. Investment in this case, does NOT mean i am putting in time in hopes of "coming out ahead" or any special gains. In this case it simply refers to the time i have spent playing and enjoying the game. Don't take my term of "investment" at face value.

With time spent, ALWAYS comes some form of attachment. Many who have invested a large amount of time and deny that fact are kidding themselves. My point was that since a large portion of time was spent in the game (soon to be 2+ years) that it is hard to simply detach from one's progress. It is not setting oneself up for dissappointment, it is inherent to feel attached to something that someone puts their own precious time into, especially when the time spent is large...

I hope that clears up my original point in post #129 and by no means do my thoughts apply to everyone. I was just stating the WHY's and my own take on it. eh, mebe im too sentimental, but its how i feel.

cheers.

well my feeling on this is:

i quit gw on new years, still have all my stuff, but im just bored, and even with the new expansion....you already have everything you need! you can get expensive weapons streight away! i want the same feeling that i got when i first bought GW...the feeling of wonder...how far can i go? how much can i make? and the overall feeling of poverty! my first months of gw were my happyest! so when i heard of GW2...im extatic! might buy eye of the north just to tie up the story...thats about it

As it is there are many outposts where other players are scarce. This is just going to make GW... dead.

If you ask me, they have been planning this for a while. The heroes were made so that when everyone moves to GW2 we can still play GW1, just party with heroes. That way the game wouldn't completely die due to players not finding groups, getting aggravated, and quitting.

Don't even care about this right now. It's at least a year away, too far for me to worry about. Hell, if you wanted to, you could probably outfit all your chars in FoW in that time. Unless its really bad, I'll buy it when it comes out. With level cap being 100 or so, wouldn't be too bad for a lvl20 to get ported over. On the other hand, if we don't then that's fine too. I just hope there's some way to port our friends list over. Or our guild.

Personally looking to GWEN more right now. When's the beta for that coming?

Its because it feels like Anet is leaving us for something better, if we dont follow, we are, "out of fashion." Its like whats the use of taking over the world if there is no one in it to share it with? GW as it is a game based on cooperation and interaction between players. For all the hours played on GW 1, id like a little more than titles and my name back.

For those who are saying we play GW for fun, that is true but what makes it fun? Getting AND being at the top, which means hours of play. In PvP is your guild rank or HA rank. In PvE, its your classy armor, unique weapons and extravagant minipets. Does anyone care that you have 10000000000000000 British pounds when the currency is Aussy dollars? Am I bovvered if Ultraguy8665 has the sword of a thousand truths? No because I dont play WoW. (but I watch catherine tate.) If we stay in GW1 we become outdated monarchs ruling a deserted world, if we move on we are noobs again. If you dont mind being a noob again, thats your opinion, but I and many others feel that starting over means all our work has been in vain. I didnt spend 746 hours to give my new character a few titles and my old name.

Actually I think it may actually help the expansion sales, because of the 'Hall of Monuments' to link GW1 to GW2. Many people will want to get this link and the 'special' features it provides. But, that's just my opinion.
